The ring set supplied is Goetze who are a German oem supplier.
The standard 4.0/4.6V8 bore size is 94mm = 3.7007". This is the stated standard bore size for this engine type. The ring manufacturer will aim to have the ring gap within limits at the absolute minimum size that the engine could theoretically be built to with some safety margin.
For the benefit of people reading this review the tolerance is .018 to .022" clearance approx.
I have this morning diamond honed a V8 block casting to 3.7007" measured with calibrated measuring equipment and recorded a clearance on Goetze top rings as supplied to yourself of .018" with an as honed finish. This is within tolerance.
Experience dictates that new rings installed at slightly over maximum tolerances will not affect fit, function or purpose.
